National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) — public non-profit university. It is located in Islamabad, Pakistan. The higher education institution was founded not so long ago — in 1991 — which is why it is considered one of the youngest in the country. NUST is a member of Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), Talloires Network, The International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE), Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN), International Association of Universities (IAU), Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA), International Association of University Presidents (IAUP), United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), Affiliate member of International Association of Science Parks (IASP).
The university is ranked number 353 in QS World University Rankings 2025.
NUST does research in different fields of study and invites students to bachelor, master and doctorate programs.
| Subject | Place in QS 2024 |
|---|---|
| Engineering & Technology | 144 |
| Accounting & Finance | 301-350 |
| Natural Sciences | 394 |
| Social Sciences & Management | 400 |

The academic calendar at NUST is divided into two semesters, as in many other universities in Pakistan. For convenience, tuition fees are calculated per year. For local citizens, tuition fees at NUST start from 4 USD. International students pay a minimum of 1,000 USD per year. The university provides tuition assistance to some students through financial aid programs. They are available to both locals and foreigners. Check the university website for up-to-date information on prices and available scholarships.
It is necessary to pay attention to other costs: accommodation, transportation, study materials, food, and personal expenses.

The campus of NUST is located in Islamabad. This is a fairly large city that opens up many opportunities for students: from cafes, restaurants and other entertainment to internships at large companies. But an urban campus can also be a disadvantage, because big city life distracts some students from their studies. The university students have access to the library. It is an integral part of learning. Students come here for educational literature or to do their homework. The exchange of intercultural experience occupies a special place in training at NUST. The educational institution regularly invites foreign students to participate in exchange programs and organizes various joint events.
If you want to stay in Pakistan after graduation, one of your options is to apply for a work visa. To do this, you need to get an offer from an employer. NUST graduates find jobs quickly, partly because the university has a good reputation among employers according to the QS World University Rankings. Look for more immigration options in our article.
