One question decides this university for most applicants: is a James Cook University degree earned in Singapore the same as one earned in Queensland? On paper, yes — the Singapore campus has been wholly owned by JCU Australia since it opened in 2003, and issues the same awards[1]. What differs is everything wrapped around the degree. Inside Singapore, JCU is a private education institution rather than a public university, and that status sets the terms: no fee subsidy, no part-time work on a Student's Pass, no post-study job-search pass, no campus housing.
| Students | About 3500 on one campus[2] |
| Intakes | January, May, September; teaching in English |
| Application cut-off | At least 6 weeks before the trimester starts[3] |
| Minimum English | IELTS 6.0 undergraduate, 6.5 postgraduate |
| Tuition, whole course | 52,195 USD for the Bachelor of Business[4] |
| Living budget | 1,123-3,186 USD/month on JCU's estimate[5] |
| Work rights | None during study; no job-search pass afterwards |
The campus sits at 149 Sims Drive, in use since 2015[14]. Five schools teach here — Business, Science and Technology, Social and Health Science, Pathways and Language[15] — alongside the Tropical Futures Institute and an aquaculture facility. There is no student housing.

The catalogue is narrow and vocational, taught in a blended format: business, commerce, accounting, economics, IT, cybersecurity, psychology, science, aquaculture, environmental science, tourism and hospitality, plus pathway courses. Check the closures first: Early Childhood Education takes its last intake by December 2026, Internet of Things is taught out by September 2027, and three Master of Information Technology majors, Games Design among them, by January 2027[4]. Clinical psychology and counselling take only Singaporeans, permanent residents and dependant pass holders[16].

JCU prices courses as whole-of-course totals, not annual fees. These are international rates for students starting from Trimester 2 of 2026, inclusive of 9% GST.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Bachelor of Business, Commerce, Economics, IT or Tourism | 52,195 USD |
| Master of Business Administration | 32,151 USD |
| Pre-University Foundation Program | 13,892 USD |
| Application fee and one-off registration | 197 USD plus 662 USD |
| Student's Pass processing[17] and issuance[18] | 34 USD plus 46 USD |
Living costs are the line applicants underestimate: 1,123-3,186 USD/month, of which accommodation alone is 607-2,276 USD/month. With no hall of residence you shop the private market from a list JCU publishes but does not run[19]; our guide to renting an apartment abroad covers deposits. Add hospitalisation insurance and the compulsory Fee Protection Scheme premium.
Admission is rolling and criteria-based, not competitive: meet the academic and English standards, apply in time, and an offer follows. Direct entry needs 12 completed years of schooling or the equivalent, assessed case by case rather than from a grade table[20].
| Stage | When, and what it means |
|---|---|
| Trimester intakes | A missed start costs four months, not a year |
| Merit Scholarship | With the course application; no separate deadline[23] |
| 2027 calendar | Not published as of August 2026 — JCU's page still lists 2026[24] |

One named award exists for international applicants: the JCU Merit Scholarship, worth up to 15,173 USD depending on your results and programme. It is open to full-time students starting here for the first time, and excludes the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours), the Graduate Diploma of Psychology, the Master of Psychology (Clinical) and the Master of Philosophy. One trap: JCU's own terms-and-conditions page still describes a superseded scheme from a 2017 intake, so treat the live scholarships page as operative. Since the Tuition Grant Scheme does not reach private institutions[25], it is the only fee cut on offer — see also our scholarships for international students.
Work rights follow the institution, not the student: the 16-hour term-time exemption reaches the autonomous universities and the polytechnics, not private ones[10]. Budget for zero earnings across the whole course. The campus does run a careers operation: one-to-one advisory sessions, a careers convention each trimester with employer talks and interviews, an employment board and a mentoring scheme[26], with internships built into the degree. In the same survey, 63% of the cohort held full-time permanent roles at a median gross 2,655 USD/month[9].

JCU assesses school qualifications individually rather than from a table, so email admissions a scan of your certificate early and ask for a written equivalency assessment. It matters most for WAEC and NECO holders, Indian state boards outside CBSE and ISC, and anyone with eleven years of schooling — it decides between direct entry and a foundation year.
Have transcripts issued in English by the awarding body where you can; otherwise use a certified diploma translation and keep the original with it. Sit the English test before applying — the six-week cut-off leaves no room for a retake. Keep money liquid at In-Principle Approval, when the first fee falls due. For the destination rather than the campus, see our guide to studying in Singapore.

Choose JCU Singapore when you want an Australian degree without Australian living costs, you are aiming at business, IT, psychology or hospitality, and your funding is secured.
Look elsewhere when your plan depends on part-time earnings, on staying to job-hunt, or on a subsidised fee. If a Singapore address is the point, the National University of Singapore carries the Tuition Grant, work rights and the post-study pass, at a far higher entry bar. If the Australian degree is the point, the Queensland campuses add marine science and a work visa.
