Mahidol University - DescriptionMahidol University (MU) ranks among the most prestigious educational institutions in Thailand and as the most outstanding research university in Thailand. The University was established as Siriraj Hospital in 1890 as the first medical school in Thailand and later as the University of Medical Sciences in 1942. In 1969 the University was renamed by H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej after his own father, Prince Mahidol of Songkla, who is widely considered to be the Father of Modern Medicine and Public Health in Thailand. As a long historical development, MU has grown into a well-established and respected multi-disciplinary university comprising its 4 teaching hospitals, 16 Faculties, 6 Colleges, 8 Institutes and numerous Research Centers. At present MU offers 140 international academic programs, consisting of 1 certificate level, 19 bachelor, 4 graduate diploma, 2 higher graduate diploma, 63 master and 52 doctoral degree programs. Since then, the university has expanded into a prestigious multi-disciplinary university, covering numerous fields of discipline including medicine, basic and applied sciences, public health, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, engineering, environment, veterinary sciences, sport sciences, disability studies, management, hospitality industry, religious studies, social sciences, music and the arts. MU has three campuses in the Bangkok metropolitan area: the large suburban campus at Salaya in nearby Nakhon Pathom province, and two inner city campuses in Bangkok Noi and Phayathai in the Bangkok area, in addition to a downtown high-rise office site for the College of Management.
