Founded in 1942. Since 1950s was aimed at training engineer-physicists and had the name of Moscow engineer-physics institute (MEPhI). Since 2009 has the official name of National Research Nuclear University MEPhI and unites 10 higher and 13 specialized secondary educational establishments training the specialists for nuclear and other high-tech spheres. The educational process is based on fundamental physics-mathematics studies and profound engineer training and stipulates the active research work of the students. National Research Nuclear University is the leading scientific, research, innovative center with a set of unique physics units that take part in international and Russian scientific programs. Today the MEPhI is one of the leading research universities with well–established academic schooling in the Russian Federation which trains post-graduates, holders of Magister’s degree, Bachelor’s degree as well as Specialists in the most significant areas of fundamental and applied science and modern technologies both for the Russian Federation and foreign countries. On the whole the MEPhI provides training in a vast variety of areas: Nuclear Engineering and Nuclear Technologies, Engineering & IT, Life Sciences, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences with Nuclear Physics, Arts & Humanities being the key specialization of the University..
