Getting to know the mentor
What is the most difficult part of being a mentor?
It’s important to be on the same wave with the future student, correctly understanding his goals and focusing on available opportunities. This is what we do in our everyday work.
What questions do applicants most often ask you?
Students often doubt their abilities. Of course, we always try to look at each situation through an objective lens and not overestimate their abilities. But as mentors, we also know that each student can increase their admission chances and strengthen their portfolio — and our task is to help them with that.
Why did you decide to learn Czech?
I love to study socio- and psycholinguistics, observing the similarities and differences between cultures and languages that are close to each other. Therefore, knowing a little about Czech culture, I wanted to explore life in Eastern Europe and the languages of the countries in this region. As a result, I made friends in Serbia, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Poland.
Why did you decide to help students study abroad?
I have always wanted people to know as much as possible about the opportunities offered by living and studying abroad — to this day, I remain inspired! Studying abroad opens up numerous prospects, and internal boundaries and perceptions are inevitably challenged and broadened. I'm excited to help future students recognize these opportunities and take advantage of them.
What did you do before joining UniPage?
I taught Russian as a foreign language.
Describe your internship experience abroad.
I studied at the University of West Bohemia and lived in the beautiful, little town of Pilsen. The professors were always courteous, demanding, but fair. I met new people from every part of the world on a daily basis. Of course, I enjoyed student life outside of the university walls, especially when it came to living in a dorm — this experience has its own kind of charm.
Do you have a favorite country or university that you enjoy working with?
Not yet, and I’m not sure I will ever have one. Every new direction that I take on turns out to be a favorite for me. Just like people, all countries are different — I prefer to fall in love with their distinct features.
How many countries have you visited, and which trip was the most memorable?
I haven’t visited that many countries, but I have some unusual plans in mind. Oddly enough, my favorite trip was to a small Austrian town on the border with Slovakia. I wandered there by accident, but I was charmed by its unshakable calmness and abundance of flowers.
What do you do in your spare time? How do you relax?
My interests sometimes conflict with each other. I love active vacations, such as long hikes through the mountains accompanied by tents and campfires. At the same time, the best rest for me is to often spend a day in silence and not talk to anyone. For example, I spent ten days in Poland on a meditation retreat. In my free time, I spend time alone or with friends and family.
