Thompson Rivers University (TRU) — public non-profit university. It is located in Kamloops, Canada. The higher education institution is considered one of the youngest in the country, as it was founded in 1970. TRU is working together with Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC), Canadian Virtual University (CVU), Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), Canadian University Press (CUP).
TRU does research in different fields of study and offers bachelor and master programs.
At TRU, the academic calendar is divided into two semesters. However, tuition fees are calculated per year. One year of studying at TRU will cost local citizens a minimum of 226 USD. For foreigners, the tuition fee is different — from 849 USD per year. With the help of scholarships and financial support programs, students can partially or fully cover the cost of education. Check the university website for up-to-date information on tuition fees and available scholarships.
Also, be prepared for additional expenses: accommodation, transportation, study materials, meals and personal expenses.
Admission to the bachelor's programs is based on the results of entrance examinations. Before applying to the university, you need to pass an exam for knowledge of the English language. The university accepts the results of IELTS, PTE or TOEFL. The minimum IELTS score is 6.5. The TOEFL score is not lower than 88. Upon admission, an IB diploma is accepted.
Master's degree at TRU
The admission committee of the university takes into account the previous academic performance of the student. To confirm your level of English, you must pass IELTS or TOEFL. The minimum TOEFL score for admission is 88. IELTS — 6.5 or higher.
The campus of the educational institution is located in Kamloops. This opens up all the delights of life in a big city for students: a rich infrastructure, a large selection of entertainment, convenient transport, as well as more opportunities for internships or part-time jobs. However, for some students, such an abundance of opportunities can be distracting. The university has a library where students can do their homework, write scientific papers or just read interesting books. Thanks to international exchange programs at TRU, students can communicate with representatives of different countries and nationalities and thus expand their own horizons. And, the university contributes to this by regularly holding joint events for local and foreign students.
Canada allows university graduates to stay in the country from 1 to 3 years. To do this, you need to apply for a graduate visa, which allows you to work even without a formal offer from an employer. You can find other options for immigration in our article.
