Description of George Mason University

Mason is making its mark as a great university. Located on a beautiful residential campus in Fairfax, Virginia, just 20 miles outside of Washington, D.C., Mason offers a traditional college campus where you’ll feel right at home, as well as access to the wonders of the nation's capital. With an average class size of 25-35 students and unique opportunities such as the Honors College and Living Learning Communities, students enjoy a small-school feel as well as all of the benefits of a large institution.
With an innovative liberal arts curriculum, including unique academic programs such as Conflict Analysis and Resolution, Bioengineering, Film and Video Studies, Forensic Science, and Sports Management, you can tailor your degree to your passions and meet your specific career goals. There are 76 undergraduate majors, as well as hundreds of concentrations and minors, from which to choose, in addition to pre-professional advising in fields such as law, medicine, and veterinary science.
As a research university, Mason is nationally recognized for providing both undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to conduct original research along side professors who are well-known leaders in their fields. Our professors conduct groundbreaking research in areas such as cancer, climate change, international policy and politics, national and international security, the biosciences, and computer game design. Students can also study conservation biology first-hand through the Smithsonian-Mason School of Conservation, home to clouded leopards, red pandas, Przewalski horses, and other endangered species.
