The University of Connecticut is the state's flagship institution of higher learning. Founded in 1881, the University of Connecticut has grown to include 13 Schools and Colleges at its main campus in Storrs, separate Schools of Law and Social Work in Hartford, five regional campuses throughout the state and Schools of Medicine and Dentistry at the UConn Health Center in Farmington. UConn is a Land Grant and Sea Grant College and a Space Grant Consortium institution. The University is undergoing one of the most extensive building programs of any public university in the United States, fueled by billion dollar investments to renew, rebuild, and enhance all of its campuses, including the main campus at Storrs with ten outstanding Schools and Colleges, five regional campuses (Avery Point, Greater Hartford, Stamford, Torrington, and Waterbury), the School of Law and Graduate Business Learning Center in Hartford, the School of Social Work at the Greater Hartford Campus, and the Health Center in Farmington (Schools of Medicine and Dental Medicine, graduate programs, medical and dental clinics and John Dempsey Hospital). The Health Center pursues a mission of providing outstanding health care education in an environment of exemplary patient care, research and public service.
