Founded in 1816, the University of Warsaw has a long tradition to build on, with its graduates including recognized scholars and writers, also Nobel Prize winners. UW strives to combine it with modernity, of which a good example is a growing offer of interdisciplinary programmes, offered also in English (BA, MA and PhD programmes), or the construction of the Centre of New Technologies to support academic research. Active international cooperation is one of the main objectives of the UW strategy, which makes it actively participate in the Erasmus+ and Erasmus Mundus programmes through around 1500 bilateral agreements. The University of Warsaw consists of 20 faculties and 30 other independent teaching units. With almost 50 000 students and 3600 academic staff, the University of Warsaw is also the biggest Polish higher education institution. Description of University of Warsaw

The University of Warsaw (UW), established in 1816, is Poland's biggest and best public university, playing a major role in the intellectual, political and cultural life of the country and recognized throughout the world as a leading academic centre in Central-Eastern Europe. The basis of the University’s activity is the unity of teaching and research. The University’s civic mission is the formation of elites through providing its students with high professional qualifications and preparing them for proper fulfillment of future public roles by shaping their attitudes and developing their personalities. The cultural mission of the University is a synthesis of universal and local values. This aim is achieved by combining the universal techniques of communication and knowledge with maintenance of respect for the historical and cultural identity of the region and the state. The University is a place of a diversity of scientific research, the output of which is propagated throughout the society regionally, nationally and worldwide. UW comprises 20 faculties as well as many independent teaching and research units. It offers around 200 study programmes in the Humanities, Social, Natural, Physical and Computer Sciences at all cycles of studies, among these 25 linguistic full degree programmes and 24 degree programmes taught fully in English (including 6 international PhD programmes and 3 MBA programmes), as well as vocational training, E-learning and Summer Education, which makes the University of Warsaw indisputable leader in internationalization process among all universities in Poland. Over 50 000 students, including BA, MA, doctoral students and post-diploma learners, are currently studying at UW. The faculty consists of c. 3500 academic staff, of which almost 90% possess at least a PhD diploma, supported by almost the same number of non-academic (research, technical and administrative) staff. The international reputation of the University of Warsaw is also attested by its active international cooperation with over 1000 foreign academic institutions from 70 countries of the world through direct bilateral agreements and partnerships within the European Union’s Erasmus and Erasmus Mundus programmes. The University is a member of over 70 scientific consortia and networks, comprising the most renowned research institutions in Poland and abroad. Every year our staff are engaged in over 2000 research project, also subsidized from the 7th European Union Framework Programme, representing a wide scope of interests – from archaeological excavations, through developing new diagnostic and therapeutic methods to constructing innovative equipment, performing an advanced analysis of social and cultural changes or analytical space observations.
