Bachelor of Education, B.Ed — is a junior academic title, awarded to students who have completed a bachelor's degree in pedagogy in countries with the Bologna system of higher education and in the states of the British Commonwealth.
The title of B.Ed gives the right to teach in elementary, middle, and high school. In many universities there is a gradation:
Most higher education institutions require a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) title to enter the Bachelor of Education program, however, some universities accept high school graduates for the bachelor of primary education.
Also, in some universities, there is the possibility of combining bachelor's degrees. In this case, secondary school graduates have the opportunity, after studying for four (rarely three) years, to receive the title of "Bachelor of Arts in Education" or "Bachelor of Science in Education".
Especially high requirements are placed on applicants who wish to enter the undergraduate program for a Bachelor of Adult and Vocational Education. Typically, an applicant must submit BSc, and B.Ed diplomas, and have at least three years of teaching experience.
In different universities, to obtain a B.Ed degree, a student must study for two to four years (each educational institution sets its own rules). Most often, the four-year program is designed for students who combine studies in two bachelor's programs. Holders of BSc or BA diplomas study mainly for two to three years.
Bachelors of Science, having completed the B.Ed program, have the opportunity to become teachers of mathematics, physics, chemistry, or biology; bachelor of arts — history, social science, geography, and languages.
During the training, much attention is paid to child psychology and sociology. In the last year of study, students are allowed to do an internship. In different universities, it takes from 100 to 200 academic hours.
Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Adult and Vocational Education program (usually the duration of study is one to two years) are taught sociology, adult psychology, and gender relations.
